About me
Howdy, everyone. My name is Karla. I am a 25 year old female from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. On the outside, I may appear normal. However, there is one slight difference that sets me apart. I am wheelchair bound due to premature birth and Cerebral Palsy. The truth is that it can be very taxing, frustrating, and tiring at times, but I don't let it stand in the way of achieving my dreams. I have an invested interest in self-esteem and self-worth of individuals and their families. I graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University with a bachelors degree in social work in December of 2007. In 2008, I applied to Tulane University's masters of social work program and was accepted this past spring (2009). However, due to the economy, I was only able to attend Tulane's program for a semester. This is both a disappointment and a blessing in disguise. I've recently had a change of heart, and I'm probably going to be attending Southeastern as soon as the spring of 10 to major in elementary education. Deep down inside, there is a part of me that has always had a desire to become a teacher. My group of choice is kindergarten. I figure it will give young children a chance to experience diversity, learning that the disabled community is capable of becoming professional just like the rest of the world. I also believe that a good & high quality education is essential to survival in today's society, more so than ever before. It's almost paramount. I'm not 100% sure where I'd like to teach in the long run, but eventually, I hope to move to bigger city such as Houston, where opportunities are flourishing. Also, a big fact for me to consider is of course, accessibility. I've always struggled a bit when trying to find places that allow me to travel freely, so we'll just see where life takes me. In the meantime, I welcome the upcoming changes with fulfilling hopes and open arms. I'm a very outgoing and friendly person. I love to make new friends and hang out with them whenever possible. I also love to read novels and listen to music. Music is a huge staple in my life; it guides and directs my life in a way that most would have deemed impossible. Lifehouse is my favorite band, and they have made an enormous impact on my life. Their music has taught me so much about myself and has allowed me to gain extreme amounts of confidence and will-power. I do not know where I'd be if I did not have them in my life. I have an amazing ability to relate their music to occurrences in my life. Most people are amazed when they learn about this. I guess it's one of my "hidden talents". I have a very small circle of very best friends and family whom I love and cherish with all of my heart; their impact is relentless and means the world to me. :) I welcome any new friends! If you're interested in getting to know me, please don't hesitate to contact me or leave me a message.
